PARENTS NOTE from Mrs. Wagners: School starts up again on Tuesday, September 5!

HEALTH

The health and safety of your child is our primary consideration. WE CANNOT KEEP SICK CHILDREN AT SCHOOL. SICK CHILDREN WILL BE SENT HOME. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR CHILD IF HE/SHE IS NOT FEELING WELL OR IS UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN REGULAR ACTIVITIES.

For the protection of all, children with colds (runny noses and coughs) should be kept home for two or three days, the time during which they are the most contagious. A child should be free of fever or diarrhea for a 24-hour period before returning to class. A note from the pediatrician may be requested when a child returns to school after a contagious illness or has a frequent runny nose due to allergies.

If a child becomes ill while at school, he/she will be isolated from the rest of the group and the parents will be notified IMMEDIATELY. If we are unable to reach either parent, the emergency numbers listed on the child's information form will be called. It is our expectation that parents (or those authorized by parents) who are called will pick up the sick child without delay. We may require a doctor's note on return of child to school.

Please notify us immediately if you child has developed, or comes in contact with, any communicable illness (chicken pox, measles, etc.). All parents are notified when there is a case of communicable disease in school.

Each child must have a current immunization record and health form on file in our office before he/she may participate in any program. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PARENTS TO KEEP EMERGENCY NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS UP-TO-DATE. PLEASE INFORM PERSONS WHOM DESIGNATE AS EMERGENCY NAMES OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PICK UP YOUR CHILD IF YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE.

MEDICATION

"Medications shall be administered to a child only on the written, dated and signed request of a licensed physician. The original label must be on the container with the physician's name and instructions. All non-prescription medication shall be labeled with the child's name and dated." -Department of Human Resources Minimum Standards

Please help us comply with these standards by sending medicines in the appropriate containers. Do not put any medications in your child's lunch box. It is imperative that a medicine form be filled out by the parent or guardian and returned to the school with the child's medication.

WEATHER EMERGENCIES

In case of flooding or other inclement weather, please listen to the radio station KTRH 740 and all local television stations. If HISD cancels school due to a weather emergency, we will do the same. There are times due to area flooding or problems that school will be canceled even if HISD is in session. If this occurs, you will be notified to pick up your child. Please pick up your child as soon as possible.

PARENT PARTICIPATION

The success of our program and the optimal development of each child is dependent upon a shared commitment between staff and parents. This joint commitment makes the educational experience at Mrs. Wagner's School one in which home and school cooperate for the best interest of the child.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Your child's teacher will schedule a minimum of two parent conferences during the course of the year. Parents are requested to inform the school of any unusual events the home (new baby, trips, visitors) so that the teachers can better understand the behavior of the child. Parents will be informed of any special problems or occurrences.

We welcome your comments. Feel free to call the school to speak to either your child's teacher or the Director. Please understand: our primary focus during the day is your child. It is not always possible to come to the phone or respond to your call immediately; however, your call will be returned as promptly as possible.

Orientation Meeting and Open House

Parents are invited to an Orientation meeting before school begins to meet the child's teacher before school begins. You are encouraged to ask questions about the school year at that time.

Parents and children are invited to an Open House prior to the first day of school to acquaint the children with their new teacher and room.

Annual Open House

We hold Open House for parents and children in the fall and spring semesters. This gives your child an opportunity to share his/her work with you in the school environment.

Parent Observation

You are always welcome to visit our school and observe your child's classroom. You are also welcome to observe other classes to become familiar with the different programs and activities that we offer. Since we have frequent visitors at our school, please make arrangements in advance with the Director, so that we do not have too many adults in the classroom at one time.

BIRTHDAYS

Celebrating a birthday at school is an exciting experience for every child! You are always welcome to bring a treat (cookies preferred) for your child's birthday. Please do not bring any treat that has icing or frosting. Prior arrangements should be made with the teacher, so that there will be no conflict with other activities. Invitations to home birthday parties will NOT be distributed at school unless the entire class in invited.

PARTIES

Each class will have a short party for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and End of School. Parents will be asked to help with the parties and are encouraged to sign up for the party of their choice. Please ... no cupcakes with icing or red or purple juice!

FOOD

A morning snack is provided for each child. If your child has a food allergy, please note this on the Health Form so that the teacher is alerted.

For those parents wishing a full day program for their child, Lunch Bunch is held from

11:45 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. The children either bring their own lunch or they may purchase the lunch available to the upper grades.
